Purpose
Responsible for carrying out all field related job details as related to the water industry. Responsible for carrying out and enforcing all safety rules to assure a safe workplace. Responsible for leading and directing Liberty and contractor crews. Ability to perform as a lead operator in absence of Supervisor of Field Service.
Accountabilities
- Responsible for making thorough analysis and decisions of job details and emergencies
- Organize, lead, and direct Liberty staff and contractors as required .Assists in creating annual meter reading and weekly lock-off schedules
- Maintains and accounts for all tools and equipment and assigned vehicles.
- Fills out all paperwork on daily job safety inspection sheets.
- Performs leak repairs, maintains mains, fire hydrants, installation of new services, setting meters, changing out meters, and repairs services as neededCompletes all service orders and paperwork assigned daily.
- Assists in the preparation and completion of service orders and other paperwork.
- Operates various hand and power tools and mechanical equipment while installing, operating, and repairing mains, services, meters, valves, and fire hydrantsHelps install, tap, re-line, disinfect, test, and connect water mains and appurtenancesInvolved in shutdowns, repairs, disinfects, and restores water service to customers and tests for leaks.
- May take water quality samples.Safely set up work area traffic controlsRepairs, disinfects, and tests broken water mainsComplies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
- Reports all unsafe activities to supervisor, EHS Manager, and/or Human ResourcesAttends and participates in weekly safety meetingsPerform and interpret meter testing and update CIS with test results
Education and Experience
- Must possess a Grade 3 Water Distribution Certificate, or have the ability to obtain within 18 months. Grade 4 Water Distribution Certificate desired.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record. Class A driver's license required (location specific)
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of related experience in water utility
- Be proficient in the use and functions of the (C.I.S.) Customer Information System Program
- Must be able to work independently and responsibly with minimal supervision and function in a team environment
- Must have basic computer skills, including PC Windows operations knowledge and experience with communication devices
- Able to follow Company rules, procedures, and directions from a supervisor and/or Management
- Maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. This includes, but is not limited to, those to whom the position reports to, supervisors, coworkers, public, vendors, contractors, etc.
- Be able to exercise independent judgment, discretion, professionalism, and tact in all areas of work including matters of a sensitive and/or confidential manner
- Be able to travel occasionally
- Must be able to perform a wide range of physically strenuous tasks
- Obtains CPR and First Aid training
- Able to perform most utility service tasks and operate all field equipment without direction or instruction
- Must be able to work standby, holidays, weekends or overtime as required
- A person in this position must have the ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing, with internal and external customers, under normal and adverse conditions
- Must have a minimum of 3 years backhoe experience (location specific)
- Must communicate well with co-workers, and display a positive attitude and leadership ability in work related and safety issues
- Must be able to make own decisions in emergency situations. A person in this position must have the ability to meet the public under normal and adverse conditions
