Purpose
The Specialist II carries out various assigned aspects of the water quality monitoring program and associated compliance activities. Performs other duties as required.
Accountabilities
- Collect and test water and wastewater samples for various analytes as required by permits
- Analyze data to identify trends, anomalies, and necessary corrective actions
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations
- Prepare, review, and submit required reports to regulatory agencies
- Operate and calibrate laboratory equipment used in testing procedures
- Assist in the development and implementation of water quality control plans
- Conduct regular inspections of water and wastewater treatment facilities
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of testing instruments
- Participate in emergency response activities related to water and wastewater incidents
- Investigate complaints and answer inquiries from customers concerning water quality
- Regularly report to and communicate with the supervisor regarding compliance activities and emerging or ongoing water quality concerns
- Performs custodial duties in the laboratory, such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, and trash removal to maintain the cleanliness of the laboratories
- Maintains the confidentiality of files, records, reports, and procedures as required by law and company policies
Education and Experience
- High school diploma, plus two years of experience in the water and wastewater sampling or engineering field, or a suitable equivalent.
- Must have general knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations dealing with water quality
- Must possess a Class C Water and wastewater Operator license.
- Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver’s license
- Must have the ability to meet tactfully with the general public in matters of water quality.
- Must communicate with co-workers and display a positive attitude.
