Purpose

As a GIS Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our electric systems safe, efficient, and compliant by using data to drive real-world solutions. You’ll be responsible for maintaining and analyzing GIS data that supports our electric utility operations, with a heavy emphasis on regulatory reporting and spatial data analysis. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, field crews, and regulators to ensure data accuracy and compliance.

 

This is a hybrid role that must live within commuting distance of one of our Lake Tahoe offices. 

Accountabilities

  • Maintain, analyze, and update GIS data related to the electric utility system using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and Utility Network tools
  • Support large-scale GIS migration projects in partnership with Liberty’s Enterprise GIS team, transitioning data into the Esri Utility Network platform
  • Lead the development of GIS-based reporting tools to support regulatory compliance, including monthly and quarterly submissions
  • Build and maintain spreadsheets, visualizations, and dashboards to analyze trends and present technical data clearly to stakeholders
  • Conduct field data collection using GPS and LiDAR, and reconcile conflicting or incomplete data to ensure accuracy
  • Collaborate with internal departments to identify opportunities for operational improvements using spatial and statistical analysis
  • Create and maintain mobile GIS applications for field crews, enhancing field-to-office coordination and emergency response
  • Manage and maintain GIS records, CAD files, substation drawings, and digital archives for engineering and regulatory purposes
  • Support emergency operations by delivering real-time mapping and data solutions to field and office staff
  • Perform other responsibilities as requested by leadership 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field — or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of experience in GIS, preferably in a utility or regulatory setting
  • Strong analytical background, including experience with spreadsheets, statistics, and interpreting complex data
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and reporting, especially in the utility or environmental sector
  • Proficient in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and Utility Network tools
  • Experience working with GPS, LiDAR, CAD drawings, and mobile GIS apps
  • Skilled in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, charts) and other Office tools
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical data to non-technical audiences
  • Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple projects
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field sites as needed

Compensation

Expected pay: $25.30 - $31.62 per hour

Full salary range $25.30 - $37.95 per hour

*Liberty considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education, training and skills, and geographic location. Base pay for this role is expected to fall within the min to mid-point.
