The Journeyman Meterman will have:

successfully completed a recognized Meter Technician/Meterman apprenticeship or possess equivalent training, knowledge, and experience required to perform journey-level metering work.

• Possess sufficient working knowledge of electricity and electrical theory to use test equipment, meter data, and calculations to determine voltage, current, power, volt-amperes, power factor, reactive components, and other electrical characteristics.

• Install, remove, exchange, program, test, calibrate, read, maintain, inspect, and troubleshoot electric meters and associated metering equipment used for residential, commercial, industrial, generation, and specialized electric services.

• Work with advanced metering technologies, including Itron Riva Gen 5 smart meters, AMI communications, meter programming, configuration, diagnostics, event data, interval data, and meter communication status.

• Perform and interpret applicable meter accuracy and diagnostic testing, including Full Load (FLS), Light Load (LLS), and Power Factor (PFS) testing, to verify proper meter operation and measurement accuracy.

• Diagnose and troubleshoot AMI-related issues, including meters that fail to communicate, intermittent communications, installation issues, meter events and alarms, and conditions requiring field investigation or meter replacement.

• Verify meter communications and interfaces between field-installed metering equipment, Liberty systems, and approved external customer equipment or systems where applicable.

• Review meter information and diagnostic data to identify abnormal operating conditions, potential wiring or service issues, incorrect meter configurations, communication failures, and other conditions affecting accurate measurement or reliable operation.

• Install, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot self-contained and transformer-rated metering installations, including current transformers, potential transformers, test switches, meter sockets, K-base installations, and other approved metering configurations.

• Customer generation services in accordance with applicable electrical codes, company standards, tariffs, and metering requirements.

• Support metering for distributed energy resources, including customer solar and other generation installations, and verify proper meter configuration and operation for applicable bi-directional and time-of-use services.

• Identify unsafe, damaged, deteriorated, or non-compliant meter sockets, service equipment, customer panels, and associated equipment and take appropriate action consistent with company procedures.

• Investigate customer concerns involving meter accuracy, high or low usage, partial power, voltage concerns, meter communications, meter displays, AMI functionality, and other metering-related issues.

• Clearly communicate technical metering information to customers and explain meter testing, accuracy, equipment condition, and required corrective actions in a professional and understandable manner.

• Work independently or as part of a crew to perform metering assignments throughout the Lake Tahoe service territory.

• Respond to emergency call-outs, outages, damaged electrical equipment, partial-power conditions, meter failures, customer service issues, and other operational needs as assigned.

• Coordinate with Troublemen, Line Crews, Service Technicians, Customer Service, Engineering, Operations, AMI personnel, contractors, and other departments when metering work intersects with distribution system or customer-service work.

• Support AMI deployment and post-deployment activities, including meter exchanges, internal exchanges, unreachable or non-communicating meters, specialized meter groups, customer panel issues, and field verification of metering installations.

• Operate company vehicles and assigned equipment safely in mountainous terrain and adverse conditions, including snow, ice, wildfire conditions, and remote locations.

• Maintain accurate records of meter installations, removals, exchanges, testing, programming, equipment, materials, time, field conditions, and completed work using company-approved systems and applications, including SAP where applicable.

• Maintain assigned tools, test equipment, vehicles, computers, communications equipment, and specialized metering equipment in safe and serviceable condition.
