Purpose
Responsible for delivering superior customer service in all field activities with minimum supervision on transmission and distribution systems and facilities, as applicable. Performs such work in accordance with Company, regulatory and safety procedures.
Accountabilities
- Performs leak investigations and classifies underground leaks. Locates underground gas lines. Monitors and re-evaluates leaks until repairs are completed.
- Executes customer’s requests for service including connections, disconnections, leak and carbon monoxide investigations.
- Replace meters and regulators. Set and remove meters as necessary.
- May change charts and perform pressure and rectifier checks.
- Responds to emergency natural gas releases such as ruptured natural gas lines and/or services.
- May read meter and records consumption for billing.
- Installs, programs and operates Automatic Meter Reading equipment as necessary on residential and small commercial accounts.
- May disconnect service as necessary and perform collection efforts on delinquent accounts.
- May assist with preparations for natural gas line extensions including measuring and marking. May be required to perform natural gas line location tasks for new construction or other utility companies.
- Investigate and repair leaks above inlet stop cock.
- Inspect, adjust and light gas appliance. Turn gas off as needed to ensure a safe environment is maintained.
- Independently identifies abnormal operating conditions as they occur and take appropriate steps to solve them.
- Demonstrates comprehensive working knowledge of customer service field activities.
- Assist in training and directing other employees engaged in similar duties.
- Perform activities to ensure responsiveness to natural gas and other emergencies.
- Respond to emergency and after hour service calls.
- Obtains customer load requirements.
- Complete and maintain accurate records and reports to comply with Company and regulatory requirements.
- May assist MIC Techs and Construction Crews as needed.
- May assist in conducting leakage surveys, exercise emergency valves and obtain CP reads in accordance with federal and state regulations and company standards.
- Calibrate and maintain company assigned equipment.
- May take monthly odorant reads and fill odorant tanks as needed.
- May be subject to reporting outside regular work area.
- Will be required to hold stand-by duty/first responder duties (FRD).
- Identifies, addresses, and reports safety and encroachment issues to their resolution and completion.
- Is responsible for the safe operation and inspection of assigned Company vehicles and equipment.
- Demonstrates support for and adheres to the Company’s values, strategies, policies and procedures and exhibits the core values of Liberty Utilities, Customer Service, Safety and the Company’s Code of Conduct both as an individual contributor, team member and/or leader of others.
- Must become familiar with the contents of the Safety Manual, live by the spirit of its intent and become involved in creating and maintaining a safe working environment. Must complete all required safety training.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have and maintain minimum Operator Qualifications (OQs) and classroom training for position as well as any other required OQ tasks as assigned by Manager.
- Requires a valid driver’s license in accordance with Company standards.
- Requires working knowledge of various software applications for data entry, reference and/or retrieval tasks.
- Requires the ability to communicate with internal/external customers in order to obtain and/or provide explanations and/or modifications.
- Work requires entry to customer premises.
- Works outdoors in all types of weather and may be exposed to extremes of climate and temperatures, high noise levels, rough terrain, and occasional work on ladders, roofs, attics, and under houses as well as confined spaces.
- Will have residency requirement due to call-out response time.
- Requires frequently performing activities including, but not limited to bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, grasping, reaching, climbing, twisting, turning and/or lifting up to 100 pounds (i.e. lifting and installing meters.
- Requires the acute sense of sight and hearing (corrected or uncorrected) and strong sense of smell.
