Purpose
Under moderate supervision this position is responsible for providing engineering support, administrating capital project costs, administrating fixed asset/GIS documentation and maintaining capital project documentation. This support may include aiding in water system master planning and design of various construction projects and administrating capital projects.
Accountabilities
- Works under the direction of the Capital Administration and Operations Managers.
- Performs various duties including capital project cost administration and fixed asset allocations, maintaining project documentation and operations and maintenance records.
- Assists in the construction of projects by ordering materials and services, and maintains records for capital project files.
- Assists in the preparation of letters, memoranda, reports, project specifications, and other written communication.
- Assists with the preparation and tracking of capital and O&M budgets.
- Assists in the creation and maintenance of facility system maps and facility management systems.
- Updates Fixed Asset and GIS data bases and utilizes those systems to provide data and analyses for others.
- Assists in the timely collection and processing of as-built documentation for construction projects.
- Supports Company activities from other business units.
- Performs various other duties as may be assigned be designated staff.
Education and Experience
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and six years of technical experience in a water utility or other related field, or possess an equivalent of combined experience.
- Graduation with an Associate’s degree in a related field can be used for up to two years of experience.
- General knowledge of engineering, accounting, project management, and construction management practices.
- Knowledge and use of personal computers and advanced skills in word processing and spreadsheet software are mandatory. Experience in Microsoft Office products is preferred.
- Intermediate skills in computer-aided drafting (CAD) and Geographic Information System (GIS) software are preferred.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate in English with others including internal and external customers under normal and adverse conditions are required.
- Possess effective interpersonal skills and be able to work with people at all levels of the organization. Maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. This includes, but is not limited to, those to whom the position reports to, coworkers, public, customers, regulators, etc.
- Must meet established goals and deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Be able to exercise independent judgment, discretion, finesse, professionalism, and tact in all areas of work including matters of a sensitive and/or confidential nature.
- Must have good organizational, problem solving, and math skills.
- Able to work independently and function in a team environment.
- Must maintain a professional appearance as a front-line representative of the Company.
- Must be able to take direction, be a self-starter, and self-motivated.
- Must have the ability to prioritize and organize multiple assignments with limited time constraints and changing requirements.
- Be able to follow Company rules, procedures, and also directions from Management.
- Be able to work weekends, holidays, and extra time as required.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Be able to drive Company vehicles.
- Be able to travel for business.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
- Sufficient physical dexterity to walk, drive, lift, carry, stoop, bend, push, pull, and climb stairs.
- Ability to handle (lift, carry, operate, etc.) materials and equipment necessary for the job.*
