Senior Manager, Project Controls

Purpose

 

The Senior Manager – Project Controls will provide leadership to a group of project coordinators and/or project schedulers, and the processes that they use. The primary role is ensure that all project reporting, scheduling, coordinating and administration processes run smoothly and consistently across multiple projects. In addition, this senior manager will support the Business Development Department’s mandate to ensure that projects are being carried out within the confines of set deadlines and budget limitations, and will oversee the generation of monthly progress reports to Project Managers. The focus will be within the business functions of project cost control, reporting, variance analysis, administration, schedule development, and schedule tracking.

Accountabilities

 

  • Provides leadership, reporting, and coordination for the Business Development Department during implementation of SAP at Liberty. 
  • Subject matter expert and the primary point of contact for interface with the Corporate SAP implementation team (Customer First).
  • The scope of the SAP integration activity includes alignment of Business Development processes with EAM, ERP, P2P and integration with the general cost control modules of SAP.     
  • This leader is expected to bring forward suggestions for project management process improvements in the interest of continuous improvement and increased efficiency within Business Development. As such, this role will have frequent interaction with the Project Management Office within the Business Development Department.                     
  • Any subsequent ongoing process improvements on behalf of the Business Development Department in relation to SAP implementation.                    
  • Possess strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational and written/oral communication skills. Must be a detail-oriented team leader who can consistently meet deadlines and possess the ability to work independently as needed. Computer, interpersonal and customer service skills are necessary.
  • Ability to multi-task and demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse group of Project Managers, executive managers, subcontractors, consultants and other professionals. In addition to these skills, it is important that the Senior Manager - Project Controls displays the following capabilities:
    • Evaluating step-by-step project management processes.
    • Selecting, training and overseeing project team members.
    • Forecasting project goals and completion.
    • Developing project scheduling, budgeting and progress reports.    

Education and Experience

 

  • The minimum qualification for this role is a bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, engineering or accounting.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a people manager. 
  • A Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of Project Controls experience within the field of major capital project construction is required for this position. 
  • Experience with SAP is also preferred.
