Senior Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis

This position will support the FP&A team’s mission to simplify the complex, tell the financial story and drive informed decision making.
The purpose of this position is to provide FP&A support in the area of Regulated Utilities, consolidated reporting and to drive improvements across all FP&A processes including Budgeting, Forecasting, Management Reporting, Variance Analysis, Capex Analysis and Performance Measurement.  This position plays a key role in budgeting, analysis and control over corporate allocations to the businesses and will interact directly with executives to achieve results.



  • •FP&A support for Liberty Utilities and Consolidated APUC

o    Preparation/ Consolidation and review of budgets, forecasts
o    Assist with variance analysis and review of monthly, quarterly and annual deliverables to Executives and Board of APUC

  • Build relationships with various stakeholders throughout the corporate office, including the Renewables Group, Regulated Services, Corporate and business level management to understand recurring planning, forecasting and management reporting needs.
  • Review forecasting by working closely with business units monthly to refresh rest of year forecasting for the income statement, cash forecasting and capital investments.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members for strategic long term planning ensuring data consistency and accuracy.
  • FP&A Process Improvements

o    Provide recommendations to drive continuous improvement and better accountability to process and achieve deadlines within FP&A and all stakeholders involved in planning, forecasting and reporting
o    Design of and compliance with processes and internal controls to ensure timely and accurate reporting, and ensure full compliance with the SOX program
o    Assist with broader organization FP&A process improvements

  • Analytics & Modelling

o    Develop a strong understanding of the current year and long term model
o    Develop cost management processes and forecasting processes
o    Assist with benchmarking performance and processes against competitors and identifying best practices
o    Assist with preparation and analysis of statement of cash flow and balance sheet

  • Corporate Oversight

o    Review analysis of the financial results based on historical trends, variances and recommending corrective actions to influence future results
o    Assist with review of consolidated scorecard and communicating results to the senior management
o    Participate in the preparation of a consolidated calendar for monthly, quarterly and annual deadlines
o    Provide support when required to all leaders within FP&A and respond to ad hoc requests from business groups, executives and Vice President

  • Provide financial analysis support and analysis for various ad hoc projects and bridge results between scenarios
  • Attend monthly operations meetings and variance meetings to discuss Financial and Operational results
  • Partner with Corporate Accounting, External Reporting, Treasury, HR, IT and other departments
  • Work with Internal and External auditors providing support for management reporting, external reporting and controls.

Education and Experience


  • An accounting designation such as CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) is required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of managerial experience in an FP&A role is required and prior experience in financial accounting and maintaining an environment with strong internal controls is desired
  • Experience working in the utilities, energy and/or other regulated industries is an asset
  • Experience in consolidating budgets and forecasts of subsidiaries 
  • Experience with tier one planning & reporting software 
  • Advanced financial modeling ability and experience is an asset
  • Advanced user in PowerPoint and Excel with in-depth knowledge of advanced formulas, charting, and pivot tables (and associated formulas) 
  • Experience preparing and analyzing cash flow statements and balance sheets
  • Experience managing complex initiatives in a matrixed corporate environment
