Senior Manager, Disaster Recovery

Purpose

 

The Senior Manager, Disaster Recovery is responsible for leading the overall Disaster Recovery (DR) strategy for the company to support improved IT resiliency from system disruptions. Responsibilities include the deployment of DR technologies and tools, the development of DR policies and plans, and the execution of DR testing.  
 
They will develop, execute, manage and run the processes supporting DR readiness in consideration of business availability requirements, emerging technologies (including public cloud solutions), and total cost of ownership.  
 
This position will also be required to provide regular status reporting of the Disaster Recovery program that covers a significant amount of business and technology complexity to audit and executive management.

Accountabilities

 

  • Develop, maintain, manage and execute Disaster Recovery work by the enterprise IT department, including application owners and 3rd party service providers. 
  • Design and implement DR Policies for the organization that to cover documentation requirements for DR plans, DR testing, 3rd Party DR compliance, and DR reporting 
  • Closely monitor the implementation and viability of DR solutions for all applications and services. Oversee an effective communication of Crisis Management by advising on status of disaster recovery plans to the organization. 
  • Manage all Disaster Recovery related training for the organization. 
  • Develop and implement disaster recovery plans across all IT applications and IT services while ensuring all plans are documented in a centralized repository. Be instrumental and act as the leader of this function to ensure the selection and maintenance of DR related tools are accurate. 
  • Execute the implementation of DR testing programs for all critical IT applications and services. Identify defects during DR testing and ensure resolutions and improvements are made. Manage, direct, and execute the status updates to audit and executive management.
  • Leverage experience to conceptualize, design, estimate, and maintain projects to ensure these components do not go out of support. Develop and implement service provider efforts supporting the DR systems and infrastructure of the organization.
  • Oversee the overall spend on DR solutions. Provide full guidance and recommendations to reduce TCO while ensuring business requirements are met.
  • Perform quarterly gap analysis of capabilities against DR business management review and provide long term strategic recommendations for improvement.
     

Education and Experience

 

  • University - Bachelor Degree or equivalent
  • 10 years of experience with Disaster Recovery and/ or Business Continuity Management
  • Expert knowledge of disaster recovery and business continuance policies, procedures, regulations, and governance processes
  • Expert knowledge of business continuity planning software 
  • Experience with large integrated IT systems that run critical business processes (e.g., SAP) 
  • Experience with datacenter management and high availability concepts (e.g., UPS)
  • Experience with developing and executing disaster recovery testing
  • Experience working in a large IT shop running multiple critical applications
  • Excellent relationship management, written communication, and leadership/influence skills 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive management
  • Knowledge of technologies deployed in a utility environment is an asset
  • Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity Management, Cloud Technology, and/or Project Management certifications
