Senior Director, Grid Modernization & Innovation

We are looking for a leader who will strategically identify and articulate new product and service opportunities, work in cross functional teams to develop solutions and implement the solutions to drive benefits for our customers.  Furthermore, this role will be charged with measuring our success by gathering data and reporting on key performance indicators that evaluate project success of improved customer experience and / or reduced expenses.

The Senior Director will be a detail-oriented and data-driven leader with strategic insight, strong business acumen and a successful track record of building relationships & leading complex projects. This Senior Director must also possess strong communication skills, live the company’s core values, have a growth mindset and endless curiosity.



  • Develop a grid modernization strategy and implementation plan to deliver value to customers, in collaboration with the Operating Utilities, Strategy and Business Development, based on the voice of the customer.  Ensure Company's grid modernization strategic priorities are responsive to industry developments and continue to maximize value over time, capturing new opportunities as they emerge.
  • Lead the implementation of grid modernization and innovation projects within the regulated business based on approved business cases in partnership with internal and external teams
  • Lead the deployment of new products and services across the regulated services business, based on approved business cases and in partnership with Business Development. Ensure any innovation projects developed by the regulated business align to the Innovation Framework and governance
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to leverage the Company's strengths and opportunities to motivate cross-functional participation in the grid modernization project implementation.  Working with the local teams to engage with regulators to educate them on plans, and secure approval/funding to proceed.  
  • Lead the capture, measurement and optimization of key performance indicators, in partnership with the data analytics team as required, to gauge the effectiveness of new solutions
  • Partner with the Customer Solutions and Customer Care teams to drive growth through understanding the Voice of Customer to ensure products and services are aligned with customer wants and needs 
  • Develop an enterprise grid modernization roadmap and narrative, to articulate to employees, customers & regulators all the actions Liberty is taking to support customers
  • Monitor national and industry best practices and trends to tailor strategies to ensure Liberty continues to be seen as an innovative leader


Education and Experience


  • Minimum seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in a leadership/process improvement/innovation capacity partnering with cross-business, or cross-functional teams
  • Electrical Engineering Degree or relevant experience preferred
  • Experience working/executing in an innovation-oriented mindset business environment
  • Prior grid modernization or innovation experience in the utility industry is highly desired
  • Experience with financial analysis and business case assessments in a large sophisticated organizations
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally to drive projects to completion
  • Experience promoting innovative ideas and accepting the risks that are required to lead change
  • Shown ability to make data-driven recommendations with limited amount of information
  • Experience of project & portfolio management is highly desired
  • Thrive in a fast-moving, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead and mentor effectively within a matrix organization
  • Experience leading through organizational growth phases
