Renewable Project Developer

The Renewable Project Developer will lead the early-stage development of greenfield wind and solar projects from opportunity identification through to late-stage development. This is a fast-paced and multi-faceted role facing multiple internal and external stakeholders and requires keen commercial acumen and negotiating skills.


Lead all aspects of bringing early-stage wind and solar projects into Liberty’s greenfield development portfolio including:

  • Use strong project management skills to coordinate all development activities and input from subject matter experts, driving project team members to progress project towards meeting both financial and schedule expectations
  • Identify and develop relationships with stakeholders; effectively communicate with a range of audiences, including technical and market experts, local communities, government officials, first nations, utilities, and consultants
  • Demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit overcoming project challenges and identifying opportunities 
  • Adopt an owner’s mindset to make recommendations to senior management on which project opportunities to proceed with, and assessment of project risks
  • Prepare presentations supporting the project business case to obtain approval for project spend
  • Originate opportunities by synthesizing knowledge of markets, technical considerations, financial metrics, and offtake strategies
  • Work with Liberty’s internal land team and consultants to secure preferred sites for projects 

Education and Experience


  • University degree in Business, Engineering, Science, Geography or Urban Planning
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a related role with track record of managing a multi-disciplinary team on energy, infrastructure or real estate projects
  • Knowledge of renewable energy development projects in Canada and/or the US is an asset
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; the ability to prepare clear and concise development plans and presentations regarding project economics, status, timeline, and risk assessments
  • Self-driven with a proven track record of originating new business opportunities
  • Assist and lead RFP bid submissions in Canada and/or the US
  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving ability and resiliency in the face of complex project challenges
  • Diverse experience covering both technical and commercial roles preferred
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% within North America
  • French is an asset
