Plant Accountant (18 months contract)

The Accountant is responsible for the maintenance, reconciliation and reporting of Fixed Assets. Primary objectives are to support the Accounting department process to ensure the integrity, reliability and accuracy of financial information.  To develop and enforce a strong internal control environment, including clear documentation, SOX compliance, and the continuous improvement of accounting processes towards industry best practices.



  • Preparation and reconciliation of Fixed Asset Sub Ledger: Additions, Retirements and adjustments
  • Maintenance of the Fixed Assets sub ledger, including the set-up of asset classes, additions, retirements, transfers, useful life updates and monthly depreciation routines
  • Preparation of monthly Construction Work in Progress reconciliation by job/project
  • Co-ordination of quarterly Project Status confirmations from the various teams
  • Review and verification of GL account mapping related to new Capex and Opex project codes
  • Collation and upload of monthly Business Development accruals 
  • Quarterly preparation of ARO accretion and Units of Production journal entries 
  • Preparation of the quarterly Fixed Asset Continuity Schedule
  • Annual Weighted Average calculation of useful lives for Plant and Equipment
  • Support Senior Analyst with annual Statistics submissions 
  • Compliance with Internal Auditing and Control requirements and liaison with internal and external auditors in regards to Fixed Asset information
  • Understand Regulatory Accounting for Fixed Assets to assist the Regulated Business
  • Proactively support other team members on ad-hoc projects, financial audits and process improvement initiatives

Education and Experience


  • Strong MS Excel skills
  • Experience with Great Plains, Hyperion and Power Plan is an asset
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely communicate with all internal stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills with great attention to detail
  • Willingness and ability to work independently and to effectively prioritize in a fast-paced environment 
  • Working towards the CPA designation
