Intermediate Analyst, Financial Planning and Analysis (Analyst II)

The Analyst II, Financial Planning and Analysis (“FP&A”) contributes significantly to the development, coordination and consolidation of all aspects related to corporate and business services expenses including direct charges, labour, and corporate allocations. The Analyst II, Financial Planning and Analysis will partner will executive business groups across the organization to investigate and explain variances, prepare forecasts, and to consolidate actual and forward-looking information. The Analyst II, Financial Planning and Analysis will be a key resource to the preparation of the annual Budget and long-term forecast.  This position will also be working with internal and external auditors.

The Analyst II, Financial Planning and Analysis is responsible for performing processes within the FP&A and Finance team to: 


  • Coordinate with business groups across the corporate organization to provide accurate forecasting and variance reporting 
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual presentation materials for senior leadership
  • Ensure all internal controls processes are followed and evidenced
  • Identify and implement process improvement changes




Financial Planning and Analysis:


  • Assist in developing and maintaining short-term and long-term forecasts for the corporate functions. 
  • Work with business groups across the organizations to better understand financial results as well as risks and opportunities to our current forecast. Effectively communicate these findings to the rest of the team
  • Coordinate with business groups to collect and consolidate forward-looking information used in the preparation of the Company’s annual budget and long-term forecast
  • Perform variance analyses on operating expenses and provide accompanying explanations on business activities and issues causing variances. The candidate will coordinate with functional leads across various departments and geographies
  • Assist in developing business performance presentation materials for senior management teams to facilitate proactive decision-making
  • Coordinate the efforts with various parties within the organization ensuring the completeness and accuracy of information being disclosed within financial statement notes, and Board materials 
  • Work with internal and external auditors providing support for management reporting, external reporting, and controls 

Other Responsibilities:


  • Foster relationships with business groups across the organization to best understanding users’ needs.
  • Develop an understanding of corporate direct charges, labour, and corporate allocations. 
  • Take initiative to develop an understanding of the Company’s utilities and renewable businesses
  • Maintain professional skepticism and challenge existing FP&A processes and reporting systems in order to find ways to improve processes and address any control gaps.
  • Assist in the development of SAP SAC reports and dashboards 
  • Contribute to various management presentations as required

Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (e.g. Business, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, etc.)
  • An accounting designation such as CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) is preferred, will consider candidates with significant progression towards a designation.  
  • 2 years + of experience in accounting and/or finance roles
  • Knowledge of principles of accounting, finance and management accounting required
  • Ability to create reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and effectively present information and respond to questions from internal and external groups
  • Prior experience working with SAP SAC is an asset, although not required
  • Experience working in the utilities, energy and/or other regulated industries is an asset, although not required
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail required with a desire to learn
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs including: Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as a team member with peers and management to help drive continuous improvement
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive/confidential information is mandatory
