Purpose
As an integral part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, this position is responsible to provide Civil Engineering, project management, staff / contractor supervisory, and technical support services to hydro-power, wind, solar, and RNG energy generation facilities within LPCo.
Accountabilities
- Provide Civil engineering knowledge and expertise for operations, maintenance, and capital projects.
- Provide engineering knowledge and guidance for LPCo’s hydro generation, wind turbine, and solar fleets – related to concrete structures, foundations, drainage, as well as guidance in relation to Dam Safety analyses and projects as needed.
- Responsibility for coordination of, and execution of civil engineering studies: in support of regulatory filings and/or safety analyses required to maintain Safety & Compliance for the Liberty Assets.
- Participate in research related to power generation technology as required, assimilating the information into expertise, and providing opinions and recommendations based on the developed expertise.
- Actively support and participate in analysis of operating data to determine trends and identify solutions to problems, opportunities for improvement, root-cause and corrective-actions.
- Participate, conduct, and/or coordinate analysis related to structure and equipment wear, reliability, and failures, and develop opinions and recommendations.
- Provide project planning services for technology based projects including preparing; (1) scope of work definition, (2) budget estimating, and (3) project scheduling for the purpose of project justification and obtaining project approval.
- Provide project management services for wide range of CAPEX projects including, as required; (1) work planning and coordination with sub-contractors and suppliers, (2) liaison with field Operations staff, (3) management of technical documentation (manuals and drawings), (4) engagement of outside engineering services and materials including obtaining budget estimates and defining quality control parameters, (5) maintaining and reporting on scope, progress tracking, budget variances, schedule updates, (6) preparing project close-out documentation including new/revised operations/maintenance procedures, (7) ensuring appropriate supervision of contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers with respect to quality and safety, and (8) determine appropriate method for soliciting team input and providing project updates and proceeding accordingly while ensuring optimal value. Depending on size of the project, this may be undertaken as an individual, or as the manager of a multi-disciplinary team including technical support from within the engineering department as well as representatives from other departments including Asset Management, Operations, and/or Development and Acquisitions.
- Supervise staff (internal or external/contractor) in the context of completing a variety of assigned activities.
- React to changes in work assignments and priority and undertake other tasks as assigned.
- Perform all work treating worker and public safety as paramount, and in compliance with all environmental and other regulatory requirements.
- Provide, and participate in development of best practices, and other forms of engineering governance
Education and Experience
- Graduate degree in Civil/Structural/Water Resources engineering, with minimum 1-2 years of applicable experience, or Undergraduate degree with minimum 4-6 years of applicable experience
- Candidates with bi-lingual ability in French and English are preferred
- Preference will be given to candidates who hold or are eligible to obtain an PEO license or other Canadian province equivalent
- Fundamental understanding of worker and public safety issues and environmental regulations
- Candidates with direct experience/working knowledge in the following areas are preferred:
- Dams and water control structures
- Hydro/Water power-generation
- Solar, Wind and Combined Cycle Gas generation.
- Wind turbine foundations
- Must have a high aptitude for technical learning and information assimilation in a cross-functional environment
- Must have strong communication skills for the purpose of sharing and collaborating with others.
- Must possess leadership skills to operate within cross-functional teams.
- Experience in staff supervision and/or prior experience with direct-reports is an asset.
- Must be disciplined, as often the role is self-guided and self-managing.
- Experience in capital planning, budgeting, and project cost & schedule control is an asset
- PMP certification is an asset.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
- Must have the ability to utilize new software tools as may become required, with the support of training as needed.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and the ability to rent vehicles on the corporate account.
- Must be able and flexible to travel (25%) within Canada and the United States as needed.
