Senior Associate, Strategic Planning (Analyst III)

Purpose

 

The Analyst III, Strategic Planning is responsible for supporting the Strategy & Sustainability team on various projects, with specific responsibility of leading portions of the overall strategy program. General duties will include performing research, and analysis, communicating findings and conclusions, conducting evaluations of various scenarios and initiatives, and performing project management and coordination of workstreams and projects across a the full range of Algonquin's business. This role will work collaboratively, across the team and broader business to develop, evolve, execute and maintain our strategy. 
This is an exciting time to join the recently formed Strategy & Sustainability team – depending on when you join, you will be supporting the team in developing and evolving our long-term strategy, researching new technologies and business models, quantifying value implications, executing on the strategy, and/ or building and maintaining our integrated planning capabilities. 

Accountabilities

 

  • Perform market and competitor analysis both global and more specific jurisdiction level to understand trends, value creation thesis and develop Algonquin perspectives and insights from multiple sources and data points.
  • Perform short term and long term strategic and financial analysis in support of future scenarios or specific initiatives, related to renewable power, the energy transition, and emerging technologies.
  • Build financial and commercial models and conduct analysis considering multiple layers of risk and uncertainty, including scenario or Monte Carlo simulations.
  • Perform research and analysis - in support of Strategy Initiatives.
  • Extract key insights and clearly communicate findings from research and analysis, tailoring messaging to intended audience and levels.
  • Craft workplans and approaches to solve ambiguous problems.
  • Develop internal presentations, reports and other documents.
  • Collaborate across multiple functional areas to drive solutions to complex challenges.
  • Internal and external resource management and alignment.
  • Support the team in managing and coordinating various projects and initiatives, both internal to the department, and across the organization.
  • Support the development of the 2030 and 2050 strategic plan, roadmaps, scorecards, and key performance indicators.
  • Support communications and change management initiatives, including developing materials and ongoing stakeholder engagement.
  • Collaborate across multiple functional areas to drive solutions to complex challenges, interact with multiple functions and levels across the organization.
  • Support the development of the APUC strategic plan - providing strategic and critical thinking to determine issues that will have major impact to the energy and water industries.

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience.
  • Experience in the electricity or water sector, or other capital-intensive industry, preferred.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, including ability to present complex issues in a simple, logical, and succinct manner for senior management and Board level review.
  • Ability to successfully navigate ambiguous or uncertain situations, self-starter and independent problem solver.
