Senior Modeler and Analyst, Distributed Energy

Purpose

As a Distributed Energy System (DES) Modeler and Analyst at Liberty Utilities, you will have the hands-on opportunity to work on shaping the Grid of the Future. You will have access to advanced energy system modeling software and will conduct comparative cost-benefit analysis of different approaches to grid modernization to guide investments in grid infrastructure and behind-the-meter DES solutions. Familiarity with Transportation Electrification a plus.

 

Accountabilities

•Specify data collection methods and standards that will be implemented to provide input into your analysis

•Develop data analysis approaches to surface insights from grid and facility operational data
•Create technical and economic/financial models of microgrids and other Distributed Energy Systems that optimize for various objectives, such as least-cost, emissions reduction, and resiliency, to name a few

•Develop model inputs through a variety of means: soliciting information from customers, pulling from publicly available resources, estimating from internal databases, etc.
•Run optimizations with various objectives according to customer needs and company priorities; present and explain the model inputs and results to customers and internal stakeholders; adjust inputs and objectives based on feedback from customers
•Provide input to the regulatory team based on your own experience working with scenario analysis and DES optimization software

•Desired Qualifications

•Familiarity with 8760-hr load profiles for various types of facilities
•Ability to write scripts to process and transform data
•Excellent verbal communication skills
•Knowledge of optimization techniques such as Linear Programming and Mixed Integer Linear Programming
•Familiarity with distributed energy resources, such as, Solar PV, Wind, Energy Storage, Diesel Generators, Natural Gas Generators, etc.
•Knowledge of operational considerations for various types of Distributed Energy Systems
•Familiarity with current and relevant historical energy policy and regulations

Education and Experience

•B.S. or M.S. Economics, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering

•Experience related to modeling/simulation, power engineering, or economic assessment of investments in industrial and/or power equipment using industry standard modeling software such as HOMER Pro, ETAP, XENDEE, PSSE, Cyme, Helioscope, PVSyst, etc.

•Intellectual curiosity and a desire to grow
•Good problem-solving skills
•Attention to detail
•Self-directed and comfortable working remotely
