Purpose
The Accountant II will be responsible for external financial reporting for Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. (“APUC”). The primary objectives of Accountant II are to prepare the consolidated financial information, to ensure financial reporting accuracy and compliance, and to proactively improve reporting by introducing enhancements or new reports to increase usefulness while reducing preparation time.

Accountabilities
- Prepare external reporting to the public, financial institutions, and other stakeholders, including review of financials and notes to the financial statements, and updating Workiva:
- Preparation of the Quarterly and annual APUC financial statements and notes to the financials
- Assist in the preparation of consolidated cash flow statements
- Prepare quarterly and annual standalone legal entities financial statements for financial institutions and regulator
- Prepare monthly consolidated statements and analysis for internal stakeholders
- Provide support to the external audit process by liaising with auditors, as required, throughout the year to ensure timely completion of the financial and SOX audit
- Build relationships with the divisional and cross-functional finance teams to make sure we are receiving, what is needed to consolidate, adjusting/adapting to adhoc items that come up throughout the process
- Actively participate in the identification and execution of process improvement/best practice initiatives
- Supports the delivery of process simplification and standardization as well as ensuring appropriate and optimally efficient policies, procedures and controls are maintained and regularly reviewed, making improvements as necessary
- Identify opportunities for continual process improvements
Education and Experience
- CPA designation or in the process of obtaining it
- Minimum 5 years’ experience combined experience in financial reporting and auditing
- University degree, preferably in business or commerce
- Highly proficient in MS Excel and Other MS Office applications
- A proactive, independent and results-oriented individual, with a proven track record of timely delivery and a collaborative approach
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to Executive level
- Highly organized and an enthusiastic team player with good time management skills, and ability to effectively handle a large volume and variety of duties and meet strict deadlines
- Must have a strong attention to detail and superior analytical/problem-solving skills, with a passion and curiosity to take on complex tasks
