Engineer II, Water/Wastewater

Purpose

The Engineer II, Water/Wastewater performs research, prepares cost estimates and provides services for Water/Wastewater in support of engineering department.

Accountabilities

 

  • Various civil engineering tasks as related to the utilities.
  • Assist in developing spreadsheets and applications for field and office use.
  • Assist in development, maintenance and running of hydraulic models.
  • Prepares various documents as required using word processing, spreadsheet programs and CAD.
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Confident reading construction plans and familiar with contract documents and GIS.
  • Performs regular field work including design studies and construction inspection, including directing internal and external crews.
  • Coordinating plant access and contractor safety orientation.
  • Engineering design, planning, and technical assistance as required to resolve a wide variety of operating issues, service continuity and water quality problems.
  • Assists more experienced engineers and project managers in preparing upfront engineer designs, analysis, calculations, resource estimates and specifications for new construction, system enhancements, extensions etc.
  • Manage the securing of permits and licenses, and municipal/governmental requirements to complete designs and undertake the project.
  • Engage with Procurement to provide materials analysis, estimation and approval that meet specifications.
  • Update specific, detailed lists of project materials required for orders in SAP prior to Construction
  • Works under close supervision and work is reviewed by higher level engineers and/or project managers.
  • Act as project manager for one or more smaller projects.
  • Executes works with new technology, recommended Technical Knowledge of GIS and SAP.
  • Assist in project closeout, including permit closeout, ensuring that adequate as-built records and documentation are obtained as part of the project and retained accordingly.

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university with 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • E.I.T. or ability to acquire within one year of onboarding, PE preferred.
  • New York State Water Operators License preferred or ability to acquire within two year of onboarding.
  • Prefer OHSA certificates, 15 hour or greater.
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Must have a basic understanding of engineering drafting. AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS experience is a plus.
  • Valid state driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize and organize multiple assignments with limited time constraints and changing requirements.
  • Have a basic understanding of hydraulics when it comes to gravity and pressure systems.
  • Willing to travel (15%) 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an engineering staff or project team.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Motivated, self-starter with ability to work in a flexible and fast paced environment.
