Purpose
Responsible for delivering superior customer service in all field activities with minimum supervision on transmission and distribution systems and facilities, as applicable. Performs such work in accordance with Company, regulatory and safety procedures.
- The successful candidate must reside within 10 miles from a line from Hwy J and N. Douglas, Malden to Gibson, then arc back around to Hwy 25 North of Malden.
Accountabilities
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Respond to routine and emergency service calls (including after-hours/on-call as assigned).
- Locate, evaluate, and mitigate gas leaks; perform leak surveys and document findings.
- Install, service, and remove gas meters, regulators, and related appurtenances; verify correct operation and pressures.
- Perform shut-offs/turn-ons, pressure checks, relights, and customer appliance checks as required by procedure.
- Operate and maintain tools, test equipment, and company vehicles; report defects and ensure calibration/inspection requirements are met.
- Complete required paperwork and system entries accurately and on time (work orders, leak reports, inspections, material usage, etc.).
- Communicate clearly with customers, dispatch, and operations regarding work status, hazards, and follow-up needs.
Support construction/maintenance activities (e.g., locating, excavation support, pipe work assistance) as assigned and qualified.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in gas distribution, utilities, construction, mechanical service, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to obtain/maintain required operator qualifications (OQ) and certifications as applicable.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; ability to drive company vehicles.
Communication skills:
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers, coworkers, and supervisors (verbal and written).
- Ability to read and follow procedures, work orders, maps, and other technical documentation.
- Ability to document work accurately and promptly.
Numeric skills:
- Ability to perform basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) for measurements, pressures, and materials.
- Ability to read gauges/instruments and record accurate values.
Work conditions may include:
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions and in varying terrain.
- Physical requirements such as walking/standing for extended periods; bending, kneeling, climbing; and lifting/carrying typical tools and equipment.
- Work around moving equipment, excavations, traffic, and other hazards; must follow all safety rules and wear required PPE.
- Participation in rotating on-call/emergency response schedule as assigned.
