Purpose

The Data Scientist (grade 9) will lead and guide the data science capabilities. The incumbent will work with other data scientists to develop and build ML/Al models and will work with the business on complex and advanced issues to establish requirements and data requests for strategic analytical projects. They stay up-to-date as a subject matter expert (SME) in the field of Data Science. They should obtain a thorough understanding of the business needs of organizations and the ability to generate high-level actionable insights using various methods. Function as an SME for the team and business and provide guidance to peers when advanced insights are necessary.

Accountabilities

 

  • Develop, create and conduct analytics initiatives from ideation through production and adoption, and have a detailed and deep understanding of the life cycle of an analytics initiative and the common and complex pitfalls and how to rectify
  • Responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling resources/processes to achieve project/program objectives within scope, time, quality, and budget constraints. Provide in-depth guidance to others to support the understanding of the process
  • Prioritize business initiatives and structure projects for optimum success while taking into consideration budget, head count, and regulatory requirements. Provide advanced support to the team when necessary
  • Operate as the SME to support the Data Analytics/Scientist team when advanced or complex issues arise, guide others and create solutions to systematic issues, plan gaps, and production/adoption issues. Utilize advanced expertise to solve complications
  • Independently evaluate, select, build, train, & apply the most effective modeling approach using Data Science theory
  • Interact with internal and external clients to identify, research and analyze situations to resolve highly advanced problems
  • Create, develop and communicate data science outputs and create models and solutions that provide insights for the business to interpret and execute successfully
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Quantitative analytics and structured problem solving
  • Data Science theory and application
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Knowledge and understanding of data modeling, machine learning algorithms, statistical analysis, data visualization, and data engineering
  • Lean Agile and Project Management knowledge
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate data and results concisely
  • Process management expertise
  • Microsoft Applications

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, or related field (Required)
  • 7+ years advanced experience in data science, including projects/programs, problem solving/troubleshooting skills
