Purpose
The Scrum Master will guide, support and coach multiple cross-functional teams in applying Agile mindset and best-practices while they work to deliver value alongside the team. The incumbent will facilitate daily events and discussions, and monitor progress while enabling a team culture that embraces self-organization, adaptability, and continuous improvement. Serve as an active team-leader to track dependencies, risks and issues, remove/escalate impediments in order to help ensure teams can efficiently deliver with quality. Proactively coach individuals/teams to drive organizational agility to help establish Agile mindsets and practices. Handle the day to day work of coordinating the efforts and activities across the team.
Accountabilities
- Provide leadership, guidance and mentorship for other Agile roles and teams
- Manage stakeholder and leadership expectations and assist with internal and external communication regarding team scope, schedule and budget
- Form alignment and transparency on essential outcomes, engaging in complex Agile and team dynamics, take time to observe and understand the dynamics, then assisting in a way to create meaningful learnings and influences
- Enable a generative culture, foster an environment that values collaboration, incremental delivery and continuous improvement. Encourage best practices. Support scaled Agile delivery, includes cross-team delivery dependency management, risk mitigation, impediment resolution and coaching work breakdown. Encourage built-in quality.
- Monitor scrum team progress, flow and performance, report out to the Agile team and internal stakeholders so that information can be utilized to support and adapt, includes recognizing and partnering with Data Leadership and Stakeholders to align on product delivery against business outcomes
- Analyze Scrum/Agile maturity of the team and provide recommendations, coach and train teams as needed to improve delivery, includes: validating and applying in depth knowledge of Agile principles, practices, and methodologies to achieve valuable outcomes
- Organize, plan and facilitate the initial team launch providing coaching, guidance, framework tuning, practices, tools and template artifacts, includes a large focus on "Being Agile" to ensure they are being done with the Agile values and principles at heart
- Plan and facilitate multiple Scrum events each week, facilitate them with an Agile mindset in a manner that drives valuable outcomes, engagement, transparency, inspection and adaptation
- Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Scrum Certifications required
- Understanding of agile workload management tools (Jira, Azure Dev Ops or similar)
- Understanding of Agile values, principles and best practices that drive their adoption
- Understanding of Scrum, Kanban and scaled agile frameworks
- Ability to coach and mentor all Agile roles
- Ability to facilitate backlog refinement with Product Owner and Scrum Team
- Adaptability and patience
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Knowledge of techniques used to promote team collaboration, building trust, removing impediments
- Business Acumen and Systems Thinking
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Product Management, Engineering, Information Technology, or related (Required)
- 7+ years Experience in a Scrum Master, Agile Coach or Release Train Engineer role in Agile delivery.
CERTIFICATIONS
- Within 12 months of hire one of: SAFe Certs (SASM), Scrum Alliance Certs (A-CSM, CSP-SM), PMI Certs (PMI-ACP), Scrum.org (PSM I and PSM II) (Required)
