Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant (Accountant III) is responsible for the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions within the Company’s financial system. The Senior Accountant will be an integral part of the Plant Accounting team working closely with Operations and other business stakeholders to successfully account for company assets.


•    Adhere to the monthly book closing schedule including the processing of journal entries and analysis of accounts to accurately value accounts on the general ledger, specifically capital-related accounts
•    Reconcile various Fixed Asset accounts, including CWIP (Construction Work in Progress)
•    Close and Unitize Capital Jobs
•    Participate in data conversion and testing deliverables related to the system conversion to SAP and Powerplan
•    Review junior-level accountants’ work and provide coaching as needed
•    Prepare and/or review Monthly Capital Spending Reports
•    Assist in Capital Expenditure Forecasting
•    Analyze Job Cost, Actual to Budget Comparison
•    Participate in annual Capital Budget Process
•    Maintain Project Governance Documentation
•    Participate in Internal/External Audits
•    Support Regulatory Filings
•    Complete and/or oversee ad-hoc projects related to Plant Accounting 

Education and Experience

•    Bachelor’s Degree required with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in fixed asset or general accounting including all facets of the balance sheet and income statement required
•    Utility experience and/or understanding of regulatory accounting a plus
•    Master in Accounting/Finance or CPA a plus
•    Strong knowledge of GAAP required
•    Reviewer or supervisory experience a plus
•    SAP, Powerplan, Great Plains experience a plus
•    Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles required
•    Ability to work in a team environment
•    Excellent interpersonal skills, professional presentation and the ability to communicate effectively
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) particularly in Excel required
•    Demonstrated ability to analyze financial information and recognize significant variances, trends and irregularities
•    Ability to manage multiple projects and set priorities to meet deadlines
•    Demonstrated ability to problem solve by grasping the key drivers of issues and thinking through solutions that are effective and efficient
•    Ability to establish a high level of confidence with internal personnel and external contacts
