Purpose

THIS ROLE IS OPEN EAST REGION WIDE: NY, MASS, GA, NH and NB

The Billing Representative is responsible for timely technical support, running billing routines and assistance in developing and documenting policies, procedures, job aids and training materials related to the billing functions. Handles all aspects of monthly billing. Independently handles complex customer billing situations.

Accountabilities

  • Operates a computer to prepare off cycle bills; checks meter records for any apparent reading errors and adds applicable charges or credits needed and verifies bill calculated correctly
  • Works exceptions daily with resolution in 24 hours up to a maximum of 3 days
  • Uploads exceptions report/billing summary for review on a weekly basis
  • Final log of unbilled accounts/cleared exceptions to be uploaded and ready for approval by the last business day of the month
  • Refers unusual readings to meter reader for rereading; maintains records of malfunctioning or broken meters and repairs made; contact customers to explain errors and to advise of repair work to be done
  • Reviewing low or zero usage and scheduling work orders as warranted. Processing meter change outs on billing system. Assist with reviewing high usage and inconsistent meter reads and scheduling service orders as needed.
  • Adjusts accounts to compensate for overcharges, leaks, etc. and follows up with customers as required
  • Maintains accurate records and filing systems for the utility billing software and maintains confidentiality.
  • Operates the Billing systems to agreed deadlines and schedules
  • Reports on Bill production activities and outcomes on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Documents and refines Billing processes
  • Provides cross department Billing expertise
  • Co-ordinates the scheduling of Billing activities with relevant stakeholders
  • Reviews Billing development plans and assess Billing impacts
  • Constructs, socializes and executes Billing test plans
  • Provide knowledge sharing with Customer Care Manager for new developments
  • Subject Matter Expert in the Billing System identifying issues, taking action towards resolution
  • Assist with data requests and documentation for Audit requests (SOX & Internal)
  • Assists with Reporting for Month-End close
  • Liaison between Vendor and Liberty Utilities for changes, improvements and modifications, representing Liberty on projects as needed
  • Identify and recommend process improvement opportunities within the company

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Some college or professional program preferred
  • Bilingual English and Spanish strongly preferred
  • 3-5 years of billing experience
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Well-developed verbal, written, communication and presentation skills
  • Self-Driven and motivated to achieve stretch goals
  • Industry experience preferred
  • Experience handling large amounts of data, preferably within a billing or utilities environment
  • Concern for accuracy
  • Customer focused
  • Experience processing reengineering work, systems test and/or UAT experience
  • Passionate about quality
