Manager, Property Accounting

Purpose

The Manager, Property Accounting is responsible to ensure the timely, accurate and efficient maintenance of the Company’s fixed asset records by the overall management of the property accounting function.   The Manager coordinates, reviews, and approves journal entries and account reconciliations and is responsible for certain internal controls over financial reporting (SOX). This position manages a staff and is responsible for ensuring that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, communication with corporate accounting and proper recording and transmission of financial or related information; acts as liaison for internal and external auditors. This position will work closely with the Regulatory team supporting regulatory filings and reconciliations and responding to information data requests, and provides leadership and active participation in financial and administrative projects and initiatives with a commitment to excellence.

Accountabilities

  • Manages teams responsible for accounting and financial reporting for fixed assets to ensure construction and property related transactions are recorded in accordance with regulatory accounting principles and Company policy.
  • Manages internal controls over financial reporting in areas of responsibility.
  • Performs various analyses utilizing advanced spreadsheet skills.
  • Implements and ensures corporate policies and procedures are in place and followed.
  • Collaborates with the operations department on operational process reviews and shared functions.
  • Provides support to Regulatory Department for rate case preparation, filings, and data responses.
  • Participates in special/other projects as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with at least 10 years progressively responsible experience in accounting and finance.
  • Experience in the public utility sector within finance will be strongly considered.  
  • Strong knowledge of principles of accounting, finance and management accounting required.
  • Prior management experience with proven leadership, staff development, team building skills, motivating, coaching and performance management for both direct and indirect staff required.  
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and effectively  present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, professional presentation and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated ability to provide strategic solutions to complex problems required.
  • Ability to manage and the completion of meeting deadlines and ensure staff understands priorities, level of effort and time constraints collaboration.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) particularly in Excel required.  PowerPlan, SAP and Great Plains a plus.
  • Flexibility with traveling within US & Canada required. 
  • Valid driver’s license required
