Director, Financial Planning and Analysis

Purpose

This role provides oversight to the East Region FP&A Team, annual budget, and FP&A closing deliverables.

Accountabilities

  • Lead the preparation of monthly management reporting of financial and operational results for the Region , including:  P&L, balance sheet, capital expenditures, cash flow, key performance indicators (e.g. return on equity) and balanced scorecard metrics
  • Communicate financial insights and strategic recommendations to stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment.  Explain results against budget and prior year, ensuring stakeholder understanding of root causes of performance and driving action to improve future performance and manage risk
  • Support regulatory filings, responses to regulatory data requests, and preparation of ad hoc analysis and reporting for regulatory compliance purposes
  • Continuously develop and improve reporting and analysis to advance understanding of company performance
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities, developing strategies to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities
  • Lead the development of long-term financial strategies aligned with business goals and collaborate with senior management to set financial targets
  • Oversee the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives

  • Partner with Utility Presidents and other stakeholders to gather inputs for financial planning and ensure alignment on forecasts and budgets.                                                                  
  • Develop and monitor a strong control environment, ensuring adherence to internal controls, company policies, procedures, SOX requirements and GAAP.        
  • Coordinate and analyze internal (SOX) controls under the direction of management. Work closely with internal and external auditors                                                                             
  • Coach and develop direct reports with regular performance reviews related to SMART goal setting and achievement                                                                               
  • Foster an environment of excellence and teamwork where employees are disciplined in processes and work collaboratively towards the achievement of personal, departmental and business goals and initiatives.                                                                      
  • Actively participate in the identification and execution of continuous improvement/best practice initiatives

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field of study                                                            
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Professional Accounting designation (CPA, CMA)                               
  • Strong knowledge of accounting theory, generally accepted accounting principles and the Code of Federal Regulations
  • Utility accounting experience an asset
  • Experience with SAP would be an asset
