Substation Electrical Engineer (Kodiak)

Purpose

Seeking Electrical Engineers to fill positions in our Substation Design Team.

Junior level engineer: Support detailed electrical design and standardization of Liberty’s substation installations and modifications to ensure a reliable and safe electrical system. In tandem with the Department Manager and more expert engineers acting as mentors, develop subject matter expertise in substation equipment, specifications, design standards, and project execution. Senior level engineer: Apply senior-level experience with authoritative knowledge and judgement to lead and direct the electrical design of Substation builds and improvements produced within the department. With minimal guidance from the Department Manager, support and lead the work tasks within the department and coordinate work of entry level engineers within the department to support and accomplish department goals. Cross lead in other areas of engineering where required or needed. Provide guidance to intermediate level electrical engineers and consultants, and train entry level electrical engineers.

Accountabilities

  • Develop conceptual and detailed electrical designs of low to high-voltage substations utilizing AutoCAD, including, but not limited to, one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, wiring diagrams, ground grids, lightning protection, and bill of materials. 
  • Generate professional-level substation electrical design deliverables in a timely manner and continue engineering involvement for all stages of project completion, including material procurement, construction support, and as-built finalization. 
  • Provide technical guidance to internal and external project teams for adherence to organizational substation design standards while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, codes, and policies, along with consideration of industry best practices. 
  • Specify and evaluate vendor designs and quotations to ensure compliance with specifications and company purchasing guidelines to ensure cost effectiveness over the life of the equipment. 
  • Support Substation Operations personnel to solve detailed and complex substation problems with innovative and low-cost solutions. 
  • Maintain Substation equipment asset databases to ensure accuracy of technical information and data for miscellaneous reporting. 
  • Utilize excellent written and verbal communication skills to promote change within the company. 
  • Enhance the company by implementing time- and cost-saving methods of completing tasks within the department

Education and Experience

Junior level engineer: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering 
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate or ability to obtain EIT certificate within 12 months preferred. 
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills. Solid analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Willing to travel once trained, up to (15% with some overnights). 

Senior level engineer: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of utility substation experience. 
  • Proficient in AutoCAD. 
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for compiling technical reports. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Willing to travel (15% with some overnights).
