Purpose
The Mapping Technician, GIS is responsible for the maintenance and analysis of the Geographical Information System (GIS) data as it relates to the Liberty Utilities
Accountabilities
- Create, edit, analyze, and maintain GIS data, as it pertains to water and wastewater systems. Includes data collection, input, and linkages to various databases and including edits to the street centerline, parcel, subdivision, and utility data. Also adding data from contractor submissions, surveyor data, engineering plans, and subdivision plats, into the GIS databases
- Create, maintain and develop GIS web and dashboard applications working with Esri’s Portal and ArcGIS Online Environments
- Directly work with the Liberty Enterprise GIS core team to ensure the utilities system’s GIS needs are met within Enterprise GIS while utilizing the ArcGIS Enterprise suite of tools. This includes Working with a combination of ESRI’s products and extensions such as ArcGIS Pro, Utility Network Manager and ArcGIS Enterprise tools, web, dashboard and mobile applications.
- Sound working knowledge of GIS data creation and editing practices for geodatabase, layers, tables etc., as well as processing, editing, analysis, and map production utilizing sound cartography principles.
- Will work with SAP and GIS Teams to synergize Liberty’s SAP - GIS integration.
- Will work with other GIS teams for other entities in other states, primarily with our New York systems.
- Will collaborate with other Liberty departments to assist in rate cases, data compilation, mapping, legal boundaries, and other requests as needed.
- Work with field crews to train, establish and maintain mobile GIS applications
- Conducts mapping research in the field and in the office. Resolves conflicting information and ensures the accuracy of the data.
- Creating workflows and performing Global Positioning System (GPS) field data collection, post processing, and data storage for improvement of the utility mapping infrastructure.
- Work with Liberty engineering and construction contractors to obtain as-built drawing files for the use in updating the GIS infrastructure and archiving the as-built drawing within the GIS infrastructure.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with major course work in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Engineering or similar related fields.
- For a GIS Specialist I – 1 to 3 years of Utility industry experience, preferably in water and wastewater utilities.
- For GIS Specialist II – 3 to 5 years of Utility industry experience, preferably in water and wastewater utilities.
- Strong Experience in Esri’s ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and mobile applications. GIS-P Certification is a plus.
- Proficient utilization with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint) required
- Strong skills in the use of computer and peripheral equipment required
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- A team player who is ready to work with an array of GIS duties for various regions and teams across the Liberty organization.
- Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision yet collaborate with the team.
- Energetic and results-driven, with a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence Responsible for maintaining plotters, wide format printers, and scanners required
- Ability to analyze field notes and technical data; design and develop drawings and maps; completing various engineering drawings of equipment, systems, and installations required
- Well-developed verbal, written, communication and presentation skills required Flexible with traveling to other company sites and locations
- Driver’s license required
