Engineering Technician 1- Engineering Design

With some assistance, will layout, create estimates, bill of materials, make field visits and other support duties under the direction of an engineer. Additional duties include drafting (both computer-aided and manual); and specifying, evaluating, and purchasing equipment.  Also will assist with document research, printing and project administration related to various projects within the department. Not limited to substation but could also assist in other areas of engineering as assigned.

Accountabilities

The successful candidate will plan, design, stake and review various design projects to ensure completion that is consistent with company standards and applicable codes. Will plan, design, and review various design projects to ensure timely completion that is cost effective and within budget guidelines. Will specify and evaluate vendor designs and quotations to ensure compliance with specifications and company purchasing guidelines to ensure cost effectiveness over the life of equipment. Will work closely with engineers, operation managers, construction crews and project managers to resolve problems regarding designs, materials, permits and schedules to ensure successful completion of projects within a given time frame. Perform computer-aided and manual drafting duties as necessary for substation or line projects using AutoCAD or other drafting software. Enhance the company by implementing time and cost saving methods of completing and constructing projects. Assist the manager of engineering, the engineer & contract staff as required during emergencies, through the coordination and/or supervision of Company, contractor or other repair crews. Extended hours outside of the regular day may be required. Tasks not ordinarily performed may be assigned during the recovery efforts.

This candidate will need to display basic understanding of power systems. Maintain knowledge of new and developing practices, trends and regulations. They will need to be able to troubleshoot problems quickly; accurately while recommending or implementing effective solutions; documents of corrective actions taken and results. Must follow through on commitments and job responsibilities as well as set priorities for tasks and goals; organize information, effectively design and executie processes and programs. The candidate will require the ability to examine and evaluate data and information to discern trends, issues and opportunties then make recommendations to address issues. Can think "outside the box", and develop new approaches to products, strategies or problem solving. Requires organizing thoughts and ideas and effectively expressing htem in design and plans. 

Education and Experience

Degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent experience. Engineering Technology, GIS, Project Management, Drafting, or other Construction/Engineering related field.
