Engineering Technician, Standards

Purpose

Participate in a dynamic team-driven environment to support our Electric Company in the areas of construction standards, material specifications, and electric compliance.  Principal attributes include effective communication skills, driven to follow through on commitments and job responsibilities along with a creative “outside the box” approach to complex problems. The successful candidate will possess the ability to work with others to troubleshoot problems quickly and accurately while recommending or implementing effective solutions. 

Accountabilities

  • Help update and maintain the Electric Distribution Construction Standards.
  • Help update and maintain the Residential and Commercial Electric Service Standards.
  • Help update and maintain Transmission and Substation standard drawings.
  • Organize and Maintain our Electric Compliance Program.
  • Oversee and manage various engineering projects to ensure timely completion that is cost effective and within budget guidelines.
  • Help support engineers in designing, drafting, estimating, scheduling, packaging, distributing, and reporting on projects.
  • Need to understand basic power systems while maintaining a knowledge of new developing practices, trends and regulations across the industry.
  • Must be familiar with and be able to learn software that aides in engineering projects.
  • Assist the Managers of Engineering, engineers, technicians and contract construction personnel as required during emergencies; through the coordination and/or supervision of Liberty, contractor or other repair crews.  Extended hours outside of the regular day may be required. Tasks not ordinarily performed may be assigned during the recovery efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Experience or degree in Engineering Technology, GIS, Project Management, Drafting or other Construction/Engineering related field.
  • Basic job knowledge of electric utility operations and any specialized knowledge of technical, trades, constructoin, planning or office operations areas. 
  • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Familiarity with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, AutoCAD applications.
