Director, Transmission Planning and Operations

Purpose

The Director of Transmission Planning and Operations will be responsible for the planning, operation and direction of the Central Region Transmission systems as well as planning support services for the electric Distribution system(s). This specifically includes providing direction and oversight of the managers of: systems planning and transmission, and Transmission Operations (SYSOPS). Is also responsible for the development and administration of the CapEx budgets of the Commercial Operations department.

Accountabilities

  • Direct the System Planning activities as necessary to ensure system needs are met, both for the near term (0-5 year) and the long term (10 yr projected term).
  • Ensure adherence to the Southwest Power Pool requirements for annual studies and data submission, including supporting the Company’s Compliance efforts directly related to the NERC Standards encompassing BES Operations and Planning, including but not limited to: COM, EOP, FAC, MOD, PER, TPL, & TOP Standards.
  • Direct the support activities as necessary for the safe and continuous operation of the Central Region Transmission Systems.
  • Directs the construction budget functions for the Commercial Operations (T&D) department. Also overseeing the development and adherence to O&M budget for areas of supervision.
  • Represent the Company as needed/required on various SPP working groups so that the Company’s interests are presented to other Stakeholders within the planning and RTO processes.
  • Lead and manage the team to achieve its objectives, supporting the corporate strategy(ies) which impact the Transmission systems within the Central Region.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 10 years electric utility experience
  • Professional Engineering Registration (PE)
