Purpose

This position is responsible for the planning, selection, development of procedures, compliance to applicable codes and inspection of work in progress. Provides input regarding the development and evaluation of Company operating standards.  May conduct product evaluation and present recommendations.  Reviews paperwork regarding completed jobs for accuracy and adherence to original design specifications.  

 

Accountabilities

  • This position works on a variety of engineering assignments requiring broad knowledge of engineering specialty and the effect the work has upon other fields.  Solves problems using combination of standard or modifies procedures and participates in planning objectives.  
  • This position will be partly responsible for GIS mapping of newly installed and abandoned gas facilities into the companies GIS system.
  • Plan, design, develop, implement, and manage gas delivery system projects in the company’s gas work plan including new service projects, main extensions, main relays and relocations, and discrete installations such as regulator stations, bridge/highway crossings, waterway crossings, and valve installations. These activities include identifying and developing adequate designs that meet key milestones and stakeholder requirements in a timely manner. In most instances, the position will perform the duties of both the design engineer and or project manager. 
  • Provide quality designs that the construction group can utilize to build the specified facilities and that the mapping group can use to maintain the integrity of our maps and records. Manage the securing of permits and licenses, and municipal/governmental requirements to complete designs and undertake the project. Prepare accurate cost estimates for the proposed work and secure approval for the project through required documentation. 
  • Support the engineering and operations groups through other duties as assigned. Support updates/edits to O&M manual and Emergency Response Plan. Provide basic engineering support for gas pipeline materials, products and tools. Assist with developing specifications.
  • Provide technical assistance to basic projects, which include but not limited too; new services, main extensions, main relays, relocations, regulator stations, bridge/highway crossings, waterway crossings, and valve installations.
  • Ensure that technical requirements of the design are met including system pressure, flow, and operating requirements. Verify compliance of the design with company Operation and Maintenance Manual, Federal, State and industry codes. Perform special projects as assigned on behalf of Tech Services. Projects may include but not limited to; development of new guidelines/technical documents, special capital project support, manage bridge river crossing inspections, etc.
  • Complete flow studies as assigned. Analyze results and provide feedback to operations on areas of concern and potential future capital projects.  Provide engineering support for all operations Network Design Operations program.

 

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Requires experience with drafting and GIS software (e.g., CAD, Smallworld, ESRI)
  • Experience in Gas Distribution System design, engineering and planning preferred.
