Meter Service Technician II (Gas Utility)

Purpose

The Gas Service Technician II has professional industry experience in customer meter field service and/or closely adjacent and translatable activities. Performs all of the standard and some specialized aspects of service department functions. May support the training of less experienced personnel. Performs such work in accordance with Company, regulatory and safety procedures. May be responsible for performing these duties on transmission and distribution systems and facilities, as applicable. Independently responsible for field activities for both residential and commercial customers on transmission and distribution systems and facilities, as applicable.

Accountabilities

  • Meter Reading, Disconnects, Meter Installation and Maintenance
  • Change index and meter glass
  • Residential and small commercial service activation 
  • Replacing service valves
  • Minor Appliance repair and adjustments
  • Complete electronic orders and Locate requests (Damage Prevention) 
  • May support construction
  • Identify, evaluate Atmospheric corrosion.
  • Complete all ongoing safety related training,
  • Observes and reports all abnormal, dangerous and/or damaged conditions pertaining to gas meters and adjacent areas.
  • On Call rotation, First responder (Leaks, CO, NGLP, ect.), Responding to customer concerns, Leadership Training & Leak Survey
  • May plan, monitor, coordinate and inspect contractors to ensure compliance with Federal, state and local codes and regulations as well as Company policies, procedures and standards.
  • Responsible for performing the duties associated with Apprentice and Technician I role
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High school Diploma / GED
  • Basic Job Knowledge - specialized knowledge of specific commercial, technical, trades, or office operations areas
  • 3+ years natural gas service experience
  • Must have and maintain minimum Operator Qualifications (OQs) and classroom training for position.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license in accordance with Company standards.
