Purpose

Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled technical duties in the operation and maintenance of domestic and recycled water production equipment, water treatment facilities, and storage reservoirs. Completes all assigned production tasks with little or no direction or instruction. Oversees all production contracted work and any other duties or projects that may be assigned.  Ability to fill in a lead for production needs.

 

Hourly Rate: $26.63 - $42.95 DOE

Accountabilities

  • Reports and communicates to his or her supervisor on matters regarding the condition and maintenance needs of production facilities, daily activities, needed repairs, hazards, challenges, etc
  • Maintains production facilities & grounds and keeps records of all completed maintenance
  • Provides SCADA after-hours standby duty
  • Utilizes computer skills to enter data, maintain records and prepare reports electronically
  • Schedules daily activities
  • Inputs weekly time cards
  • Maintains documents, safety procedures, and records
  • Prepares reports related to well and purchased water production
  • Develops needs for annual capital and O&M budget for the Production Department
  • Maintains schedules for purchased and pumped water
  • Assist in maintaining the radio-telemetry system
  • Answers public inquiries and complaints in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Investigates water quality problems in the distribution system and take work order samples as required
  • Acts promptly in emergency situations.
  • Operates various hand and power tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Assists in setting up work area traffic controls
  • Assists in making field and job-related decisions using Company policy and procedures
  • Works weekends, holidays, overtime, and standby duty when required
  • Drives Company vehicles and helps maintain the cleanliness by keeping the vehicles organized, washed
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.  Maintains safe working conditions.  Reports all unsafe activities to supervisor, EHS Manager, and/or Human Resources

Performs various other duties as may be assigned by the Production Supervisor, or in his or her absence, the Operations Manager

Education and Experience

  • Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must have a minimum of a Grade 3 Water Distribution Operator Certificate and a Grade 2 Water Treatment Operator Certificate issued by the SWRCB DDW.  
  • Must be proficient and experienced in the operation and maintenance of well pumps and motors (electric and natural gas); SCADA System; Cla-Val valves; chlorination equipment; water treatment equipment; reservoir operation and maintenance; and basic electrical maintenance. 
  • Be able to start-up, shutdown, and safely operate water production equipment
  • Must be able to meet established goals and deadlines and with minimal supervision
  • Have effective verbal and written skills to communicate in English with internal and external customers under normal and adverse conditions
  • Required to have knowledge and experience with communication devices and basic skills in PC Windows operations, word processing, spreadsheets, and database software. Experience with Microsoft programs is preferred
  • Must have a high degree of accuracy
  • Must maintain a professional appearance as a front-line representative of the Company

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Vision and hearing correctable to enable understanding of instructions and performance of job duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in English, both orally and in writing
  • Sufficient physical dexterity to walk, drive, lift, carry, stoop, bend, push, pull, and climb stairs/ladders
  • Ability to handle (lift, carry, operate, etc.) materials and equipment necessary for the job*
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Wear a full or partial respirator to enter and work in confined spaces (this requires a clean-shaven face except mustaches)
