Plant Equipment Operator

Required to start-up, shutdown, operate and monitor various types of equipment within the Cogeneration Facility.  Must be fully oriented to the Cogeneration operations and capable of responding to emergency situations, while communicating and following directions of the Control Room Operator.  Required to assist in the daily maintenance of equipment, including scheduled outages.  Ability to work a rotating shift schedule including holidays.  Must be a “Team Player.”


  1. ALL INDIVIDUAL COMPONENTS:  Knowledge of system, operations and maintenance and corrective action.      
  2. Routine monitoring and data acquisition of all equipment and systems.
  3. Collection of water samples for analysis by the Control Room Operator.
  4. Prepare work orders as required.
  5. Provide general housekeeping.
  6. MATERIAL HANDLING:  Unloading acid, caustic, fuel oil, water treatment chemicals, etc.


  1. Assist in troubleshooting and system development projects.

Education and Experience

  • High School, Vocational Training (or equivalent).
  • 5 – 7 years experience in Steam Plant Operations. Secondary skills in the area of maintenance.
  • Mental acuity and manual dexterity is required to perform tasks, observe environmental and safety requirements, read and comprehend technical manuals, work order instructions and engineering prints and diagrams.  
  • Use a wide range of hand and power tools and equipment to assist in maintenance installation, repair and rebuild of equipment and facility.  
  • Work environment requires performance throughout the Cogeneration Facility.  
  • Exposed to inherent industrial power plant conditions and must use ladders, cranes, hoists, industrial trucks and material handling equipment.  
  • Must be capable of unassisted handling of materials up to 50 pounds.  
  • If required, must be able to work any shift, weekends, holidays and respond to call-ins during off shift hours.  
  • Required to be on call during off shift hours.
