Engineer IV

Purpose

This position is responsible for supervising the Distribution Engineering Section.  The team’s focus is the design and preparation of construction documents including electrical construction plans, bills of materials, and calculations for the electrical distribution supply system.  The department supports capital projects to upgrade, improve resiliency, and reliability of the electrical distribution system as well as meet customer service request.  The Senior Engineer will manage resources to meet design deadline deliverables. The Senior Engineer will develop and ensure compliance with QA/ QC procedures, and ensure LU is in compliance will all applicable codes, rules, and tariffs.

Accountabilities

  • Subject matter expert on overhead and underground distribution engineering, apply knowledge of Liberty Utilities construction standards, Electrical Service Information and Requirements, and portions of the National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code to construction applications of engineered electrical plan
  • Advise construction groups in the proper application of electric installations
  • Read and interpret one-line diagrams, site plans and load information
  • Perform analysis of electrical distribution design problems
  • Develop, a working knowledge of information systems critical to the work management, financial reporting and performance tracking of the designated areaIdentify all mandated work and compliance target dates, track progress, implement consistent work practices, procedures, and capabilities across the electric engineering teams to streamline, automate, and stabilize engineering tasks and ensure the efficient and most effective use of resources with moderate supervision
  • Develop, with Engineering and Operations Leadership, resourcing plans to meet the overall capital and maintenance engineering work plans for the upcoming year
  • Provide weekly and monthly report updates to Engineering Leadership on plan progress, identify gaps in resource availability and work plan requirements to Leadership as required
  • Assist with the securing of permits and licenses, and municipal/governmental requirements to complete engineering and advance the project as needed
  • Effectively communicate and participate with external agencies, municipal and regulatory representatives, and contractors on a regular basis as the company's electric system representative
  • Develop maintain and execute QA/QC procedures and training program for engineering department
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and efficient resource utilization, both throughout the department and operational teams

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ years experience
  • Preferred 5 years in utility electrical engineering
  • PE license required or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Solid knowledge in the application of the National Electrical Safety Code, General Orders 95, 120, 165
  • Thoroughly familiar with electrical safety systems, NFPA 70E
  • Experience using CAD tools, Osmose O-calc, and GIS tools
  • Prior leadership experience for junior engineers
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Proficient in the utilization of Microsoft Office required
  • Valid driver's license required
