Electrical Distribution Engineer

The Codes and Standards Engineer - Electric Distribution Engineering will provide technical knowledge and expertise for the Company to plan, design, construct, and maintain the electric distribution system with a focus on safety, compliance, reliability, operability, uniformity, appearance, economy, and the environment. The position also provides operations support including periodic on-call and storm support.


  • Maintains an expert knowledge of the current addition of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and any applicable rules and regulations of governing public authorities.
  • Develops and maintains the Company Electric Construction Standards, Engineering Design Guidelines and Electric Service Bulletins Policies.
  • Evaluates and implements specification changes to existing and new equipment, materials, and methods for electric distribution construction.  Create and maintain Electric Material Specifications.
  • Works with the Supply Chain group to review material contracts, provide input on alternative suppliers, and advises on material stocking and procurement.
  • Provides technical guidance, training, and mentoring to other engineers and engineering technicians within the department, as well as field construction personnel, as it relates to codes, standards, and areas of subject matter expertise.
  • Performs engineering calculations and analysis in support of design engineers and technicians.
  • Leads or participates in various code, safety, and engineering standards groups and associations internal and external to the Company.
  • As needed, performs design work and manages electric distribution construction projects to assist in balancing department workload and stay current on design practices and tools.
  • Provide off-hours support, including rotating "on-call" responsibilities, in response to service outages, system contingencies, and storms.
  • Interact effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Support the engineering and operations groups through other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology degree from an ABET accredited engineering school with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Electric Utility Industry
  • Possess excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Motivated, self-starter with ability to work in a flexible and fast paced environment
  • Strong familiarity with work management systems software and Excel.
  • Knowledge of power system operations and protection systems
  • Knowledge of electric utility equipment and its functions and applications.
  • Knowledge of electric utility infrastructure maps, records, and documents.
  • Familiarity with good utility practice and business management including regulatory requirements desired.
