Director, Financial Systems

The Director of Financial Systems will be responsible for the strategic management of the financial reporting systems: SAC and HFM. Responsibilities will include day-to-day operational excellence and emphasis on maximizing the benefits of the tools through automation, implementation of best practices and broad user adoption.  Acting as a collaborator between the Finance teams and the Business who use the information to drive business decisions and direction.




  • Overall responsibility within Finance for driving the successful integration and implementation of all Finance Systems including the new SAC and HFM.  Must align with SAP ERP system and Center of Excellence team. This includes ensuring appropriate and timely communication between all stakeholders.
  • Actively manage within Finance the integration and maintenance (including mapping new SAP accounts/entities to SAC/HFM) of the Finance systems and proactively control potential areas of risk (trouble shooting, incident management, response time, etc.).
  • Company subject matter expert on Finance systems, responsible for training and overall adoption of the systems.
  • Establish industry leading KPIs for operational excellence (downtime, response management, system capacity, supporting infrastructure, etc.) 
  • Collaborate with key Operational and /or Finance stakeholders inclusive of monthly, quarterly, annual and/or ad hoc requirements                    
  • Overall responsibility for the strategic use of the Finance systems, ensure the Finance team achieves the highest benefit from the investment in the systems through automation
  • Evaluate and drive next level of automation for the Finance Team and deliverables to the business, for example SAC 2            
  • Actively facilitate and encourage the development of new/enhanced reporting to advance understanding of company performance and yielding value add insights throughout the organization                    
  • Responsibility for leading, supporting the direction of financial systems, internal reporting.
  • Actively identify and implement into the organization best practices from the industry peers including knowledge around the transformation to a rolling forecast process
  • Overall accountability for the derivation of the strategic direction, use and enhancements to the Finance Systems, work collaboratively with senior management, look at Business Intelligence tools as a future solution
  • Drive the execution of benchmarking and KPI initiatives within the Finance Team, work collaboratively with senior management.  Identify areas for improvement where systems can drive success.            
  • Plan and execute with other Finance leaders on the transformation of the SAC/HFM systems to be a provider of information to broad business areas, SAC/HFM to become a “self service” tool for the organization, ensure proper change management and training occurs.
  • Assist in the future transition towards budget owner-based population of SAC for rolling forecasts, LTM updates and other data as needed.

  • Drive the ongoing improvement of financial systems within the overall organization
  • Identify and implement constant finance employee development, training, and areas of focus.
  • Desire and ability to assist the team in driving efficiencies and automation across all areas.
  • Ad-Hoc duties and accountabilities as assigned.

Education and Experience


  • Bachelor degree or greater (e.g. Business, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, etc.).
  • Experience in Finance and/or Accounting would be an asset.
  • Previous experience with FP&A and/or financial reporting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Systems Implementation experience in a large public company.
  • 10 years + progressive experience in similar positions.
  • Prior experience with SAP planning and forecasting modules, HFM
  • Preference would be for a candidate who also possesses experience in power generation or utilities industries.
  • High attention to detail and desire to learn.
  • Ability to work as a team member with peers and all levels of management to help drive continuous improvement.
  • Ability to influence behavior and decision making of others
