Director, Enterprise Business Solutions

The Director, Enterprise Business Solutions responsible for delivery of key business solutions objectives, setting the strategic direction and providing leadership in the deployment and support and value realization of future technologies and enhancements to the existing SAP and other key business solutions. 
The position acts as the Leader of the Enterprise Business Solutions Center of Excellence and subject matter expert within the organization and is able to liaise with technical staff, business leadership, compliance, operations to ensure Business Solution goals and objectives are met.  Must maintain sound industry relations and keep informed within the industry and technology areas. 


As this is a new capability and role in the organization this leader will be accountable to establish the strategy and structure for the Enterprise Business Solutions Center of Excellence (CoE) and build the requisite team through internal and external recruitment.  The leader will work with the appropriate company leadership to develop a RACI (responsible, accountable, contribute, inform) associated with the new CoE.
As part of the steady state, the Director, Enterprise Business Solutions will:

  • Establish strategic direction for the CoE organization
  • Drive innovation and development efforts by maintaining an understanding of the competitive landscape
  • Conduct presentations to peers, teams and senior management on potential new technologies/products
  • Be the highest point of accountability for planning, organization and prioritization of SAP and related business solution activities including but not limited to development, architecture, quality assurance, security and operations
  • Evaluates and recommends short and long-term strategic business plans associated with the CoE scope
  • Continuously reviews the current technology for replacement / upgrades
  • Partners with suppliers, both internally and externally, to understand needs within the organization and provide appropriate solutions
  • Partner with internal business stakeholders to gather business, data and reporting requirements and translate the business needs into a technology roadmap and plan
  • Continually monitoring business solution quality and performance including:
  1. IT functions: system availability, defects, incident, release and change management
  2. Business functions: process and data governance and adherence, minor modification prioritization, business enablement and training
  3. Developing and executing a Continuous Improvement Program
  • Implementing principles, policies, standards and guidelines for Business Solution management 
  • Business Knowledge: Understand department and business issues and their impact on the operations of other areas within the organization. Applies knowledge of systems, data and customer requirements to uncover problems and recommend solutions
  • Establishes and supports proactive process assessment and formulates preventative measures throughout the organization. Design enhancements and create sound business requirements. Shares best practices and sets standards for improving processes. Benchmark best practices and challenge current models and sets standards for improvement.
  • Strategy Development: Provides input to business units based on company’s needs and department’s initiatives. Establish long term vision for the CoE. Keep abreast of industry, legal and competitive trends and understands their impact against company objectives
  • Support proactive approaches to compliance/legal/privacy complaints associated with system non-performance.  Ensure Liberty’s image is not negatively impacted and any consumer complaints are resolved.
  • Communication: Provide effective communication with other managers, Directors and VP’s to understand their needs and give assistance where necessary. Represent the CoE on a regular basis with other departments, internal, International and external customers/vendors. Supports decisions by upholding and communicating policy and procedure
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • University Degree preferably in Computer Science or equivalent.  10+ years IT experience in large scale technology architecture, operations and design related disciplines.  10+ years SAP system and management experience.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills 
  • Demonstrated leader with strategic influencing skills, strong decision making, negotiating and conflict resolution skills, effective relationship building skills (internal and external), and strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Have strong understanding of IT methodologies to drive the business requirements of the future state 
  • Ability to understand and communicate IT objectives, performances and measurements such as KPI and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) within the business and technical services organization
  • Forward thinking with a passion for process improvement and a strong drive to accomplish software optimization and process standardization
  • Ability to understand implications of technology solutions and drive business value from technology investments
  • Thorough understanding of Project Management and SDLC methodologies
  • Operational expertise in SAP, GIS, field work and scheduling applications and cloud/SaaS environments
  • Experience in the use of ITIL, COBIT and other business system governance regimes
  • Hands-on operational management and change management.
  • Proven track record in operating Enterprise-level solutions 
  • Ability to determine long term directions, industry trends and how they inter relate to the organizational needs
  • Must be able to initiate change and be able to communicate effectively across all areas internal and external.
  • Energy Industry Experience including regulated electric, gas and water utility expertise
