Asset Strategy Specialist

Purpose

 

The primary responsibilities of this position are to support the overall profitability and ongoing viability of Liberty Power’s operating assets and contribute to the realization of the expected value and return on the assets either directly or through delegation to other departments.

Asset Strategy is responsible, either directly or through delegation to other departments, for all financial, contractual and stakeholder issues related to the portfolio of power generation assets owned by Liberty Power (Wind, Solar, Hydro and Thermal). This role will specifically contribute, directly or indirectly, to the solar and hydro portfolio. 

Accountabilities

 

  • Manage commercial issues including internal and external stakeholder engagement, monitor compliance of contracts and agreements, including supporting negotiation of new and revised agreements,  complete insurance and warranty claims, manage landowner agreements, as required
  • Manage and optimize property taxes, property tax abatements
  • Ensure the business operates in accordance with the long and short term organizational strategy as well as financial expectations, contractual and regulations pertaining to the assets
  • Support the management of the overall profitability and ongoing viability of the operating assets and focus on mitigating lifecycle costs, maximizing profits and ROI
  • Identify and advise on the mitigation of short, mid and long-term asset and corporate risks to ensure sustainable and optimized asset operation
  • Perform financial modelling to support capital projects and contract negotiations as well as inform strategic decision-making
  • Support the transition of new solar assets, acquired or developed by Business Development, into the operational Liberty Power portfolio
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual performance reports and budgets for internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop business plans for all generating assets, including P&L and capital budgets

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelors Degree required with a concentration in business, engineering, finance and/or economics
  • 3-6 years of related professional experience
  • 2+ years managing specific or similar business assets
