Senior Manager, System Planning and Transmission

Purpose

The position will manage and coordinate the planning for the Central Region's transmission and distribution system and interconnections while ensuring the department processes align with all other business units. This includes load flow and short circuit studies, maintenance of applicable data base(s); construction budget compilation; participation on numerous power pool committees and ensures that all data required by power pools is accurate and supplied in a timely fashion. Ensure compliance for applicable NERC Standards, including but not limited to: FAC, MOD, & TPL

Accountabilities

  • Guide and direct the technical analysis and planning of transmission and distribution additions, reinforcements and interconnections so as to ensure an adequate, reliable and safe electrical system.
  • Oversee the technical analysis, assimilation and submittal of data as required by the Southwest Power Pool for including in reports, computer simulation studies or other needs.
  • Plan required transmission and distribution projects as well as coordinate and compile cost estimates for the Central Region T&D CAPEX Construction Budget(s).
  • Implement and prepare technical studies required to support compliance with NERC Standards, including but not limited to: FAC, MOD, & TPL standards & sub-requirements.
  • Plan, prepare and monitor the O&M budget to minimize expenses within area of responsibility.
  • Maintain computer data bases as required for load flow, short circuit and other system planning studies.
  • Collaborate and assess departmental needs, shaping the direction for processes, development of process priorities, providing progress updates and resolving business process issues as they arise.
  • Provide recommendations and influence over business processes in other parts of the organization so that they align.
  • Participate as a member of the Engineering management team to assure compliance with rules and regulations as directed by company and regulatory agencies.
  • Cultivate, develop, and maintain positive working relationships with managers, supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders to gain their partnership and support.
  • Coordinate planning meetings with internal customers to ensure system needs are met and minimize possible impacts of changes to project timelines/execution may have to the Central Region T&D systems, by way of various studies and application of system knowledge gained from experience and collaboration with internal customers.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience electric utility or related experience and knowledge of power systems planning and analysis.
  • Registration as Professional Engineer preferred.
