IT Project Manager

Purpose

 

The role of the Project Manager is to improve the level of project management through the implementation of standards and best practices into the organization and the coordination of cross-functional projects and their stakeholders to ensure consistency.   When all projects operate using similar best practices, the overall project success rate increases, and project costs decrease.  He/she is responsible for identifying and solving problems by performing assessments of the overall state of project management and ensuring that stakeholders have up to date and accurate information.  Focus should be placed on improving communication so that senior executives and stakeholders know the project status and have the necessary information to improve decision making so that projects achieve strategic objectives.

Accountabilities

 

Project Delivery:

  • Facilitate the definition of project scope, requirements, goals, and deliverables
  • Facilitate effective communication through weekly and monthly status reporting to ensure that key stakeholders and senior executives have the most up to date status on work
  • Monitor and report on project issues and risks.  Work with project teams, vendors, and stakeholders to resolve appropriately; escalate as necessary using prescribed points of contact
  • Responsible for the final delivery of projects

Financial Management:

  • Manage budgets and forecasts for approved work
  • Identify variances in capital spend
  • Initiate change orders where required

Resource Management:

  • Assist in the assembly and coordination of project staff using a list of qualified contractors and agencies as the source
  • Contribute to a resource plan that shows the time commitment by role by time period for each project responsible for (employees and key contractors within IT & Transition)
  • Help define project resource requirements
     

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Computer Science, or relevant experience
  • 5-7 years’ experience in a related position ideally in the utilities sector
  • Prior experience managing system/data migration projects; SAP migrations considered an asset
  • Solid mix of business and technical capabilities, and the ability to communicate IT issues to functional business leaders
  • Proficient in using technology as a management reporting tool and experience working with information technology staff to develop and implement programs
  • Expertise using MS Office and MS Project
  • Strong presentation and report writing skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Strong project management, facilitation, and delivery skills
  • PMP Credentials considered an advantage
